Case Study 2005

The University of Baltimore (UB) is an upper-division and graduate university located in the Mount Vernon cultural district of Baltimore, the economic, cultural and governmental center of Maryland. Founded as a private institution in 1925, UB became a state institution in 1975 and became part of the University of Maryland System (now known as the University System of Maryland) in 1988. UB delivers comprehensive programs through the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts, The Merrick School of Business and the School of Law.

Specific Project and Continued Support

Lisa M. Dietlin and Associates, Inc. (LMDA) served the University of Baltimore (UB) in a number of capacities. One of the most significant services LMDA provided UB is overseeing all aspects of the Development Office of UB including supervision of Development Staff by temporarily filling the Interim Vice President of UB Institutional Advancement position. LMDA worked to create a development strategy, participated in the interviewing process for various positions, provided the President of UB with key individual donor strategies and coaching sessions and participated in prospect/donor visits. LMDA served as a key leader throughout the transition period to strategically and aggressively focus the entire University Advancement efforts. As a result, UB secured a cash donation in March 2005 totaling $2 million, the largest single donation of this type the University had ever received.

Capital Campaign Services

Additionally, LMDA strategically counseled the University of Baltimore as they prepared for their capital campaign. LMDA provided oversight and guidance through a number of services. Some specific examples include: conducting a feasibility study; drafting a case for support; forming necessary campaign committees; creating a campaign timeline, budget and organizational chart. LMDA ensured all processes and systems were in place for a successful campaign. LMDA maximized the University’s effectiveness and capabilities throughout the capital campaign while remaining focused on the entire development efforts as a whole.
